Fat people are more generous with their money than thin people, a new study suggests.
A laboratory experiment designed to test generosity found that leaner people were stingier than those who carried more weight.
And even when skinny people do part with their cash, they're more likely to share it with people who are also thin.
German researchers measured blood sugar levels during the experiments, and found that lower levels made people more likely to be selfish.
While both fat and thin people are affected by this, the effects on fatter people were less pronounced.
Researchers asked 20 fat people and 20 thin people to carry out games to simulate economic behaviour.
The study was published in the Journal of the Association for Psychological Science, and found that lean people typically offered 16% less money in the games.
The report concluded: "Our data show that economic decision-making is affected by both, the body weight of the participants and the body weight of their opponents, and that blood glucose concentrations should be taken into consideration when analysing economic decision making."
It added that low blood glucose levels "seem to favour self-interest and lack of trust".
The researchers pointed to a recent review of other studies on low blood glucose, that found lower concentrations correlate with a lower willingness to spend money on anything not food related.
It said that blood glucose's effects on decisions should be examined in-depth, given the importance of financial decision-making in day-to-day life.
