'Blind sheikh' convicted in 1993 World Trade bombing dies in US prison

Omar Abdel-Rahman, the Muslim cleric known as "the blind sheikh" who was convicted of conspiracy in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and of planning a broader "war of urban terrorism" in the United States, died on Saturday in a North Carolina prison, authorities said.
Abdel-Rahman, 78, died of natural causes at 9:40 a.m. (1440 GMT) at a medical center at a federal prison compound in Butner, North Carolina, according to Greg Norton, a spokesman.

Nigeria - Governor Ayodele Fayose is prepared to be a rare guest at the Abuja House in London to see the ailing Nigerian leader and All Progressives Congress chieftain, President Muhammadu Buhari who has been away in the United Kingdom for over a month on medical grounds.

According to the Punch, the Ekiti State Governor claims that he is willing to visit Buhari in the United Kingdom if he does not return soon.

Sri Lanka arrests soldiers over journalist's abduction during war

Sri Lankan police arrested an army officer and two soldiers on Saturday over the alleged abduction, assault and illegal detention of a leading journalist in 2008 during the war against separatist rebels, the police said.
The island nation saw abductions and killings of high-profile journalists and rights defenders during the final months of the war that ended with the defeat of Tamil Tiger separatists in May 2009.

Nigeria - As President Muhammadu Buhari remains in the UK, 50,000 youths have held a rally in support of him in his hometown, in Daura local government area in Katsina state.
The rally was held on Saturday, February 18 and was organized by a NGO: “Buhari Youth Congress for Change.”
Alhaji Musa Badamasi, the secretary of the NGO, told the press in Daura that the rally was accompanied with marathon prayer.

Abuja, Nigeria - Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have prevented attempt by a forty-nine year old man to export 1.699kg of cocaine to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The arrest was made at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, when a passenger, Nwafor Samson Tochukwu tested positive for narcotic ingestion during the outward screening of an Ethiopian airline passengers.

The Nigerian Army has issued a warning to disgruntled elements in the military and their sponsors over what it terms ” a  campaign of calumny on social media platforms by some individuals or group of persons.”

Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman issued the warning in a statement in Abuja.

He said faceless persons have been making spurious and unfounded allegations bordering on payment of troops operations allowances, rotation in the North East and comparing troops’ pay to what obtains in neighbouring countries.

Edo State, Nigeria - It was a sad day and one of regrets as a kerosene seller, Mrs. Ata Buhari, has accidentally killed her 18 months old baby after she mistakenly gave him kerosene to drink instead of water.
The tragic incident occurred at Iguma Street,  Off Orewere Street, Medical Stores Road in Egor local government.
Sources said the deceased son whose name was given as Isreal Buhari had cried to his mother that he wanted to drink water.

According to the New Straits Times, one of Malaysia's biggest newspapers, it is the final image of Kim Jong-Nam alive.
The photograph on the front page appears to show the 45-year-old slumped in a chair inside Kuala Lumpur's international airport, where he was attacked on Monday.

One person is dead and 20 are injured after a passenger train derailed close to Brussels.
The train jumped the tracks shortly after departing from the station in Leuven, 12 miles east of the Belgian capital.
Images from the scene show one of the carriages lying on its side, as rescue workers and emergency crew rushed to the scene.
