Islamic State militants enter Palmyra after heavy fighting
Islamic State militants entered the ancient city of Palmyra on Saturday in eastern Syria after advancing to its outskirts for the first time since losing the city earlier this year, a war monitor said.

Updated: 60 rescued from debris of Uyo’s collapsed Church
Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom on Saturday escaped unhurt as the Reigners Bible Church International building in Uyo collapsed during a worship session.
Sixty casualties were however rescued from the building.

Gambia's President-elect Adama Barrow said on Saturday the country's outgoing leader Yahya Jammeh had no authority to reject the results of Dec.1. polls, while the United Nations and African Union piled pressure on Jammeh to step aside.
Long-ruling Jammeh on Friday called for another election in the tiny West African country after narrowly losing to opposition leader Adama Barrow, jeopardising what was expected to be Gambia's first democratic transition of power in over 50 years. He had conceded defeat publicly last week.

Gustavo Vargas Villegas, a former official with Bolivia's aviation authority was arrested and will be held until trial on charges that he misused his influence in authorizing the license of the Bolivian plane that crashed in Colombia while taking the team to Medellin for the Copa Sudamericana.

Nigeria - The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo State has confirmed that 53 persons were burnt to death in a road crash that occurred on Thursday evening at Abudu town along Benin-Agbor-Onitsha Express road.
It said eight vehicles including one motorcycle were involved in the accident. The FRSC listed the vehicles to include two commercial Toyota Hummer buses, one Dyna truck, one tanker carrying petrol, one Ford bus and one Toyota Corrolla.

Bomb blast in Egypt capital Cairo kills six police
A bombing killed six policemen at a checkpoint in Cairo on Friday, the latest in a string of attacks in Egypt’s capital targeting security forces and officials, the interior ministry said.
The attack struck in the western Talibiya neighbourhood of the capital, shortly before the weekly Muslim prayers and when Cairo’s streets are mostly empty.
The bloodied bodies of several policemen could be seen at the blast site next to police vehicles that had been stationed there, an AFP photographer reported.
