KABOOM!!! Venezuela’s new constituent assembly fires head prosecutor

Venezuela’s new pro-government constituent assembly on Saturday removed dissident state prosecutor Luisa Ortega from her job, in what critics called a blatant affront to democracy.

Since the opposition started a round of protests in April, Ortega has become President Nicolas Maduro’s main challenger from within the ruling socialist movement, accusing him of human rights abuses.

The spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Bisi Kazeem, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

A Nigerian, Daniel Adekunle Ojo, who had spent less than 14 months in the United States, has been arrested in Durham, North Carolina and charged with fraud and identity theft offences

The offences stemmed from Ojo’s phishing scheme, using an AOL and GMail email accounts that targeted school districts in Connecticut and Minnesota in an effort to get employees’ personal information and file bogus tax returns.

Nigeria - No fewer than three suicide bombers were killed by the military on Friday at Simari area of Maiduguri.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident occurred at Simari, outskirt of Maiduguri at about 10p.m. when a male and two female suicide bombers tried to infiltrate the town.

The founder and General Overseer of Radiant International Church, in Zambia, Bishop Cephas Mabo, has been arrested by the police in Kasama for allegedly raping a 20-year-old lady.

The 45-year-old Bishop raped the lady, who is one of his church members, in the bush where they had gone for fasting and prayer on Wednesday.

Updated! How two dogs saved Maiduguri hospital from bomb blast

Nigeria - Two heroic dogs reportedly died while foiling what would have been a far more tragic incident at Molai General Hospital in Maiduguri, Konduga local government area of Borno State, in the early hours of Friday, August 4.

The dogs prevented the bombers from gaining entry into the hospital with their persistent barking, and when the male and female insurgents were attacked by the dogs, they were forced to detonate the bomb strapped to their body and died instantly.

A 49-year-old man, Everett Lee Compton has been arrested in Arkansas, USA after he was caught sneaking into a farmer’s yard to have sex with a donkey.

Compton allegedly brought carrots to try and get close to the animal.

He was, however, arrested after the farm owner set up CCTV when he became worried about his donkeys.

Edwin Clark urges Niger Delta militants to abandon plans to resume bombings, to declare Niger Delta Republic

Nigeria - The Forefront has leant that the Convener and national leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Chief Edwin Clark, yesterday, cautioned militants threatening to recommence bombing of oil installations and declare a Republic of Niger Delta, October 1, on account of Federal Government alleged apathy to the peace process in the region, to back out of the dangerous plot. 

Speaking exclusively with Vanguard in a telephone conversation, Chief Edwin Clark, said PANDEF’s Thursday meeting with Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, in Abuja was satisfactory and that PANDEF was now satisfied that the Federal Government meant well for the region and also disposed to dialogue with the regional body.

And FIFPro blasts FIFA over €222m Neymar transfer

FIFPro has criticized Neymar’s €222million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, saying that it underlines the “anti-competitive, unjustified and illegal” transfer rules governed by FIFA.

The world players’ union’s general secretary, Theo van Seggelen, has also called for the European Commission to investigate transfer fees within the European Union.
