US Election 2016 - Hillary Clinton Was Diagnosed With Pneumonia Days Before Fall, Doctor Says
Hillary Clinton's doctor has revealed the Democratic presidential candidate was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday, then put on antibiotics and advised to rest.
The diagnosis came three days before Mrs Clinton stumbled while leaving a ceremony to mark 15 years since the 9/11 terror attacks in New York.
Dr Lisa R. Bardack said in a statement that Mrs Clinton was also advised to modify her campaigning schedule, adding that she is "recovering nicely" after Sunday's incident.
"Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies," the statement said.
"On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia.
"She was put on antibiotics and advised to rest and modify her schedule. While at this morning's event, she became overheated and dehydrated.
"I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely."
Earlier Mrs Clinton said she was "feeling great" despite becoming overheated and leaving early during the ceremony.
The Democratic presidential candidate spoke as she left her daughter Chelsea's home in Manhattan, where she went to recuperate following the memorial.
Footage has emerged showing Mrs Clinton being supported by officials as she gets into a black vehicle while leaving the memorial.
The footage appears to show Mrs Clinton swaying before stumbling on the street.
Her campaign released a statement saying Mrs Clinton "attended the September 11th Commemoration Ceremony for just an hour and 30 minutes ... to pay her respects and greet some of the families of the fallen.
"During the ceremony, she felt overheated so departed to go to her daughter's apartment, and is feeling much better."
The statement offered no additional details, including whether the 68-year-old Mrs Clinton required medical attention.
Democratic Representative Joe Crowley of New York, a Clinton supporter who attended the event, told MSNBC that the weather was "stifling" during the ceremony.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has repeatedly raised questions about his rival's health and whether she has the energy to serve as president.
During Mrs Clinton's speech at a campaign rally earlier this month in Cleveland, she was interrupted by a coughing spell.
During the speech, she quipped: "Every time I think about Trump I get allergic."
She then resumed her speech.
In December 2012, Mrs Clinton suffered a concussion and shortly after had a blood clot.
In a letter released by her doctor in July, Clinton was described as being in "excellent health" and "fit to serve" in the White House.
