NCC warns network service providers again: "Stop unsolicited calls and text messages to subscribers" - Final warning

Annoying as it is, subscribers keep receiving unsolicited calls and messages on their mobile phone even when in a meeting or sleeping as the case may be. The Nigerian Communications Commission on Sunday warned telecommunications operators against defying its directive on sending subscribers unsolicited text messages.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Director of Public Affairs at the regulatory agency, Mr. Tony Ojobo, expressed readiness to protect subscribers from the nuisance and irritation of unsolicited text messages and calls from mobile network operators.

Ojobo noted that in spite of earlier warnings to telecommunication service providers to activate their Do Not Disturb facility, which would give subscribers the freedom to choose the messages to receive, the commission was still inundated with complaints by subscribers.
The directive issued to industry operators to activate the 2442 (Do Not Disturb) short code took effect from July 1, 2016.

The NCC spokesman explained that the operators were mandated to take immediate action, which would allow subscribers to take informed and independent decisions on what messages to receive from the networks.
He observe flouting of the instruction, thus, compelling the commission to issue a final warning to the operators.
