The alarming note was discovered under a seat as a cleaner prepared the Boeing 737-700 for a flight from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.
After a thorough search for explosives by a team of police and sniffer dogs, the note was deemed to be a hoax - and boarding was permitted to begin on the return flight, which eventually carried 125 passengers and six crew members.
Investigators also detained and questioned the passenger who was in the seat where the note was initially found.
Speaking to NDTV, Police assistant commissioner JN Parmar said: ‘The word “bomb” was written. As passengers had already alighted, it was difficult for us to trace as to who left it. Hence, we have detained one passenger for questioning under whose seat the chit [an official note] was found.’
The incident is the latest in a recent spate of bomb hoaxes across India.
Last month, hoax calls affected more than 20 flights at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport over the course of a week.
One incident saw a hotel receive a call from someone who claimed that bombs were hidden on six flights.
