The Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, yesterday said it would commence revalidation of firearms license and vehicle tinted glass permit beginning from today through its digital platform.
It said the current firearms license and tinted glass permit would become invalid with effect from March 18, 2016, after which its holders may be liable to arrest and prosecution.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, who made this known when he commissioned the Nigeria Police Force Central Information System (NCIS) said, henceforth, all police permits would be processed through the digital platform which he said would replace the analogue system that is cumbersome and fraught with corrupt practices.
He said: “… with effect from January 1, 2016, all holders of tinted permit will be requested to re-validate their license.
“Similarly, with effect from January 1, 2016, application for character certificates must be processed through the electronic platform of the Nigeria Police Force Central Information System.
“There will be a 3-month window for the revalidation of the firearms license and the tinted permit. Consequently, with effect from March 18, 2016, the current firearms license and tinted permit will become invalid and holders may be liable to arrest and prosecution.”
Meanwhile, the IGP has admonished worshippers both at Jummat and Church services to take adequate measures to reduce the number of vehicles around the worship centres.
He equally advised operators of motor parks, shopping malls, and recreational centres to work very closely with the police and other security agencies “as they strive to strengthen general security in their respective facilities.”
To ensure a secure, peaceful and hitch-free nation-wide New Year celebration, the IG has directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and state command Commissioners of Police to ensure an effective and efficient deployment of all operational manpower and tools at the disposal of their respective commands.
He has further directed the AIG Border Patrol to ensure that the nation’s borders are effectively manned to prevent cross-border crimes.
