A 7.1-magnitude earthquake has hit the southern Japanese city of Kumamoto, scientists have said.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning, saying there was "a marine threat" and people should leave coastal areas.
The warning, which the Japanese broadcaster NHK said was for a wave one metre high, was for the Ariake Sea and Yatsushiro Seas.
