An investigation has been launched after a threatening letter containing an unidentified powder was sent to the home of the son of Republican front runner Donald Trump, according to reports.
The letter, sent to Eric Trump at his Manhattan residence at Central Park South, was opened by his wife Lara Yunaska on Thursday, CBS News reported.
It contained a white powder and warned that if Mr Trump does not withdraw from the Republican presidential nomination contest harm would befall his five children.
Preliminary testing on the substance revealed it did not appear to be hazardous, but it has been sent to a laboratory for a full analysis, CBS News reported.
The New York Police Department sent an emergency response team to the scene late on Thursday night, according to the New York Daily News.
The package had been sent from Massachusetts, according to reports.
It was unclear if Eric Trump, 32, or his wife were at home.
It comes after the hacker group Anonymous released Donald Trump's phone number and social security number after declared "total war" against his Republican campaign.
Eric Trump, the younger of Donald Trump's two sons, has been a regular feature on the campaign trail with his father. He is the executive vice president of development and acquisitions at the Trump Organization.
