President Trump back on offensive after brief respite in Paris

US President Donald Trump, fresh from a political holiday in Paris, went back on the offensive Sunday as a new poll showed his popularity dropping amid doubts about Russian election meddling and deepening frustrations over stalled health-care legislation.

In a tweet early Sunday, Trump used some of his toughest language against a favored target, the press, saying: "With all of its phony unnamed sources & highly slanted & even fraudulent reporting, #Fake News is DISTORTING DEMOCRACY in our country!"

Nigeria - An trailer smashed into a building and several shops at Kirikiri. The incident caused gridlock that saw motorist drive slowly along the scene.

A witness, who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the truck was on full speed when it veered across the road. It smashed the street lights, shops and the fence of a building.

Although no lives were lost or injuries sustained, the driver of the truck was not seen at the scene Sun reports.

Tragedy as oil depot fire kills 9 in Calabar

Nigeria - The Cross River Police Command has confirmed that nine people died in a fire outbreak that occurred at Linc Oil and Gas tank farm at around on Sunday monring.

Mr Hafiz Inuwa, the State Commissioner of police, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the scene of the event, confirmed  the figure.

Nigeria - Chairman of Capital Oil, Chief Ifenayi Ubah on Thursday disputed claims that he is indebted to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to the tune of N11billion, revealing that instead the national oil corporation is owing him N16billion. 

He made the disclosure yesterday while testifying in the ongoing public investigation by the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Downstream into the alleged disappearance of 82 million metric liters of petrol belonging to the NNPC that was stored at the Capital Oil tank farm in Lagos. 

APC national Vice Chairman Segun Oni set to run for Ekiti Guber, vows to replace Fayose

Nigeria - Former Ekiti State Governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Chairman (South),  Engr. Segun Oni, has said that he will defeat the candidate presented by Governor Ayodele Fayose in the 2018 governorship poll, just as he declares Monday his intention for the election.

Oni, who was removed through judicial pronouncement in 2010 after three and a half years in the saddle, said he would avenge the humiliation suffered by Dr. Kayode Fayemi in 2014.

Nigeria - The Presidency has denied a photograph of President Muhammadu Buhari which was posted on social media by a journalist with Voice of America (VOA), Saleh Shehu Ashaka.

It could be recalled that Ashaka published the picture on Saturday evening and captioned it:“Buhari’s first picture in 68 days since he departed Nigeria for medical treatment in London.”
