EFCC quizzes OAU’s acting VC over alleged diversion of N1.4b

Nigeria - Acting Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Prof Anthony Elujobi, was yesterday quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ibadan over alleged diversion of N1.4 billion.

Elujobi was reported to have acted in concert with the bursar without clearance from the appropriate authorities to draw the sum in settling entitlements of workers, including earned allowances as well as paying himself a furniture allowance of N7 million.
The administrator, who arrived the Iyaganku, Ibadan office of the anti-graft agency in company of some officials, was specially accused of using the money to settle unapproved perks.

But the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Biodun Olanrewaju, countered that the contentious money was used to offset the outstanding earned allowances of staff.
Meanwhile, the anti-graft has withdrawn the five-count charge preferred against former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed.
When his arraignment came up yesterday before Justice Abubakar Talba of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT High Court), Gudu Division, the prosecution counsel, Larry Peters, applied to withdraw the charge on the ground that the EFCC wants to put its house in order.
While the application was not countered by Chris Uche (SAN), counsel to Mohammed, Justice Talba consequently struck out the charge.
