Jose Mourinho was in talks to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United boss back in April 2013, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims Red Devils vice chairman Ed Woodward met the Portuguese in a blacked out people carrier outside the Vicente Calderon, where Mourinho's Real Madrid side were facing cross-town rivals Atletico.
Mourinho is said to have been open to the idea but had to decline the offer following a call from Roman Abramovich, who wanted the trainer to return to Stamford Bridge instead.
