WORLD ENTERTAINMENT: HOLLYWOOD - Massachusetts University deny Boston Marathon Bombing Film On Campus

A Massachusetts university where one of the Boston Marathon bombers was a student has told filmmakers they cannot shoot scenes on campus for a movie about the deadly attack.

Gerry Kavanaugh, acting chancellor of the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, said the school was turning down the request from CBS Films because it would be "too disruptive to our campus community".

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was a sophomore at the school when he and older brother Tamerlan carried out the bombings in April 2013, killing three people and injuring another 264.

The film, called Patriots Day, stars Mark Wahlberg and is set to be released in December.

Mr Kavanaugh said the administration had discussed producer requests with students and staff before making the decision to decline filming.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found guilty of carrying out the attack last year and was sentenced to death. Tamerlan died during a shoot-out with police in Watertown, Massachusetts.

Last month, officials in Watertown said they had rejected a request from the filmmakers to recreate the shoot-out in the neighbourhood where it took place because it was not in the town's best interest.

A spokeswoman for the production team said it had explored all of the locations where the events took place for the sake of authenticity, but added that respecting those affected by the bombings was its top priority.

It comes after it emerged Tamerlan had passed a US citizenship test three months before the attack.
