WORLD NEWS: HEALTH - Ebola nurse Pauline Cafferkey discharged from hospital again, confirmed not infectious

Nurse Pauline Cafferkey has today been discharged from hospital after being treated for a third time since contracting Ebola.

Confirming the news, the Royal Free Hospital in London said: "We can confirm that Pauline is not infectious.

"The Ebola virus can only be transmitted by direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person while they are symptomatic."
Pauline Cafferkey is transported to the London Free Hospital last week

She first contracted Ebola in December 2014 after treating patients in Sierra Leone at the height of the outbreak which killed more than 11,000 people.

She spent almost a month being treated in the isolation unit at the Royal Free and was discharged in January 2015.

But on 9 October last year she was flown from Glasgow back to the London hospital by a military plane after an "unusual late complication".

The complication caused her to fall ill again, with meningitis caused by Ebola.

At one point she was described as "critically ill".

But she was discharged from hospital again in November last year, with doctors saying she had made a "full recovery".

However, Miss Cafferkey was admitted to hospital for a third time on 23 February following further complications.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said on Tuesday that Ms Cafferkey was in a stable condition after "routine monitoring" identified a problem.

She was later flown to London.
