NEWS: NIGERIA - Politicians wanted to use us to scuttle 2015 elections -Young Democratic Party

National Chairman of Young Democratic Party (YDP), Ezekiel Nya-Etok, has disclosed that the party was approached by some highly-placed politicians in the country to scuttle the conduct of 2015 general elections.
This was even as he revealed that his party decided not to challenge its exclusion from the general elections because it never wanted to distract the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
Nya-Etok said the politicians, who he noted, were aggrieved at developments in their various parties, wanted to cash in on the exclusion of the YDP from the 2015 general elections.

But, he warned desperate politicians wishing to use the party as a tool to express grievances, to steer clear. He said the party was not formed to act as opposition to government.
“Because we were registered as a party few weeks to the general elections and because of the development, could not be captured in already-prepared ballot papers to participate at the polls. Some people desperately wanted us to take the matter to a law court with a view to stopping the entire process, but we rejected that.

“We, as a party did not want to challenge the outcome of the 2015 general elections because we didn’t want to distract the government in place. We will not be part of opposition government, running down government institutions, running down other parties, seeking to make sure that when they failed, they will choose us. That is for an idle mind,” he said.
He said the party, which was registered shortly before the elections, was out to develop what he called “ fundamental restructuring of the country, through an inclusive and participatory process” bearing in mind the current challenges confronting the country as a nation.
