Nigerian Army searches Kanu’s home for arms

Nigeria - Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra ( IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that soldiers have again invaded their Afaraukwu Umuahia family home and carted away some household items.

Prince Kanu said that the invasion by the soldiers took place on Sunday afternoon.

Nigerian Army kills two Boko Haram insurgents in Borno

The Nigerian Army on Saturday said its troops had killed two Boko Haram insurgents at Mayanti village of Bama Local Government Council of Borno State.

Lt. Col. Kingsley Samuel, the Deputy Director Army Public Rations, 7 Division, said in Maiguri the troops had ambushed a group of insurgents while trying to cross into the Sambisa Forest.

Tragedy as at least 11 dead in Syria market air strike




At least 11 civilians including two children were killed on Sunday in air strikes on a market in northwestern Syria, a monitor said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes on the market in Idlib province’s Maaret al-Numan were probably carried out by regime forces.

Thousands take to Barcelona streets to protest against Catalan independence

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Catalonia’s capital Barcelona on Sunday to express their opposition to any declaration of independence from Spain, showing how divided the region is on the issue.


The protesters rallied in central Barcelona, waving Spanish and Catalan flags and banners saying “Catalonia is Spain” and “Together we are stronger”, as politicians on both sides hardened their positions in the country’s worst political crisis for decades.

Nigeria - The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti was on Sunday shut indefinitely following violent protest by students over the death of two of them.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that trouble began on the institution’s campus late Friday, when two of the students reportedly complained of malaria.

Scare as Monkeypox reportedly spreads to Akwa Ibom State

Nigeria - One case of Monkeypox has been recorded in Akwa Ibom State, an official has confirmed. At least 13 people suspected to be affected by the viral disease are on admittance in hospitals in neighbouring Bayelsa and Rivers states.

The Commissioner for Information in the Akwa Ibom, Charles Udoh, in a statement issued in Uyo, confirmed the single case. He also said that the state government was investigating two more cases suspected to be monkeypox.

Five feared dead in Uyo Stadium during Nigeria, Zambia tie

Five people were feared dead while scores sustained serious injuries on Saturday following a stampede at the entrance of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The incident occurred while football enthusiasts tried to enter the stadium.The fans, who were at the stadium to watch a match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Chipolopo of Zambia were allegedly beaten by soldiers at the gates of the stadium with heavy sticks.

Oh dear me! Gunman kills two guards at Saudi royal palace

A gunman shot dead two Saudi guards and wounded three others at the gate of the royal palace in the Red Sea city of Jeddah on Saturday, the interior ministry said.



Royal guards killed the gunman, identified by the ministry as a 28-year-old Saudi national armed with a Kalashnikov and three grenades.

Nigerian technician 35, allegedly shot dead in South Africa

A Nigerian, Jelili Omoyele, 35-year-old cellular phone technician, was allegedly shot dead in Johannesburg on Saturday, the Nigeria Union, South Africa, has said.
