Islamic State militants kill ten Iraqis in ‘fierce clashes’

At least ten members of an Iraqi militia group have been killed in an attack by Islamic State militants.


A statement released by the Shia-dominated Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) said the deaths came during “fierce clashes” with IS.

Nigerian troops eliminate another top Boko Haram commander Abu Usamah

The Defence Headquarters says troops of Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) have eliminated another top Boko Haram commander, Abu Usamah in an encounter on March 22 at Gorgi in Borno.


Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

KABOOM! 'Islamic State-infested' island wiped out by 40 tonnes of explosives

US warplanes have dropped 40 tonnes of explosives on an island in northern Iraq to annihilate an Islamic State hideout.

F-15 and F-35 fighter jets were used in the joint operation between US-led coalition forces and the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service, which targeted Qanus Island in the Tigris River.

An Iraqi court said Sunday it had condemned to death by hanging a German woman of Moroccan origin after finding her guilty of belonging to the Islamic State jihadist group.

US carries first airstrikes against IS in Somalia

The US military has conducted for the first time two airstrikes against Islamic State group fighters in Somalia, where the group is a growing presence in a country long threatened by the al-Qaida-linked extremist group al-Shabab.



A US official said the strikes were carried out in northeastern Somalia, with the first around midnight local time and the second later Friday morning. The official was not authorized to discuss the mission publicly so spoke on condition of anonymity.

Police discover IS note in New York's Manhattan attack truck that killed 8

A man suspected of killing eight people and injuring at least ten more in a vehicle truck attack left a note pledging allegiance to Islamic State, US media has reported.
The perpetrator is believed to be Sayfullo Saipov, originally from Uzbekistan
Officials have said they discovered the note, which one officer said was written in a foreign language, in the truck Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov allegedly drove through a busy Manhattan cycle route on Tuesday afternoon.

Iraq forces defeat IS group incursion near Ramadi

Islamic State group fighters seized areas around Ramadi, west of Baghdad, on Wednesday in an apparent attempt at a diversion from offensives on its last Iraqi footholds but were swiftly defeated, security sources said.


The jihadist infiltrators briefly occupied three areas near the city, which is the capital of mainly Sunni Arab Anbar province, long a bastion of insurgency, the sources said.

Police make third arrest in London Tube bombing

British police on Tuesday arrested a third suspect over the bombing of a packed London Underground train which injured 30 people last week.
The 25-year-old man was detained by anti-terror officers in Newport, Wales, London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Gunmen and suicide car bombers killed at least 74 people Thursday near the Iraqi city of Nasiriyah, in the deadliest attack claimed by the Islamic State group since it lost second city Mosul.

Iraq declares victory over IS group in 'liberated' Tal Afar



Iraqi Prime Minister Hayder al-Abadi declared victory over Islamic State militants in Tal Afar and the entire province of Nineveh on Thursday, despite continued fighting in the small town of al-‘Ayadiya.

Tal Afar had become the next target of the US-backed war on the jihadist group following the capture of Mosul, where it had declared its “caliphate” over parts of Iraq and Syria in 2014.

US-led coalition strikes at IS fighters being evacuated from Lebanon



The US-led coalition carried out two sets of air strikes on Wednesday to block Islamic State group fighters evacuated from Lebanon from reaching eastern Syria, its spokesman told AFP.

Hundreds of IS fighters and civilians were evacuated Monday from the border region between Lebanon and Syria under a ceasefire deal and were headed to an IS-held town near Syria's eastern frontier with Iraq.

Iraqi forces announced Saturday the ouster of Islamic State (IS) group fighters from central Tal Afar and its historic citadel, leaving them poised to fully recapture one of the jihadist group’s last urban strongholds in the country.

The advance, less than a week into an assault on the strategic city, came after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory in Mosul, where the IS group declared its "caliphate" in 2014.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to a Shi’ite Muslim mosque in Kabul as other attackers stormed the building, killing at least 30 people including worshippers gathering for Friday prayers, officials said.

Islamic State, which has launched several attacks against minority Shi’ite targets in Afghanistan, claimed responsibility, the jihadist group’s news agency said.
