PDP BOT Chair Walid condemns formation of splinter group within the party

Nigeria - Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT), Senator Walid Jibrin, has condemned the formation of a splinter group within the party.

A group made up of aggrieved PDP members, on Wednesday, held a press conference in Abuja saying it had opened a parallel national office to challenge the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC).

Jibrin, who addressed a press conference in Kaduna, said the BOT of the party would never allow a situation where people would be planted for the purpose of destroying the party as it happened in the past.

The BOT chairman said when he met with the group in Abuja they showed remorse and assured him they would review their action as they had a lot of respect for him.

He said what the party needed was for all its members to unite and support Prince Secondus and his new executive members to move the party forward and ensure victory for the PDP in 2019.

The BOT chairman described the press conference held by the splinter group as unfortunate, saying it violated the process of settling dispute within the party as enshrined in the PDP constitution.

“While condemning the group which held the press conference, I am calling on them to reverse by following the proper mechanism of settling dispute as enshrined in the constitution and to remind them that Secondus came to power as a will of God and through the verdict of delegates,” he said.

The BOT chairman called on those who contested election with Secondus to accept what he called the “will of God” and the supremacy of the party.

“The BOT will no longer tolerate deliberate violation of the constitution and any attempt to ridicule and undermine the party through any planned or sponsored litigation,” he added.

Jibrin said the PDP BOT had also reviewed the outcome of the last convention of the party and had thrown its weight behind the Governor Seriake Dickson Reconciliation Committee which he said was doing a good job.

He said the BOT would also establish its own internal committee to further enable the board take mature and common stand always as the conscience of the party.
