Sad news as 5 delegates to council meeting with VP Osinbajo die in auto crash

Nigeria - Five delegates to the second national council meeting of the Niger Delta, holding in Igbokoda, in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo have been killed in an auto crash.

The autocrash which occurred at Ode – Aye along Ore – Okitipupa road also left four other delegates badly injured.

The delegates, whose identities have not been disclosed yet, were travelling from Akure to Igbokoda for the summit which Vice President, Yemi Osibajo was to chair.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Femi Joseph who confirmed the incident, said the accident was caused by overspeeding.
He said three vehicles were involved in the accident, adding that the vehicles were damaged beyond recognition.
The PPRO also said that the corpses had been deposited at the mortuary of the state specialist hospital, Okitipupa, where the injured victims were also receiving treatment.
He said efforts were on by the state government and the Police to give the injured victims proper attention.
The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo who will be in Akure for the Niger Delta meeting will later proceed to Igbokoda for a meeting with stakeholders of the riverine communities.
