Nigeria - The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced the suspension of its strike after 10 days.

It, however, said it will review the suspended industrial action in two weeks’ time to assess government’s level of compliance with the agreements reached with the association.

This was disclosed by the NARD Chairman, Ibadan chapter, Segun Olaopa on behalf of the National Executives of the association in the early hours of Thursday after a crucial meeting.
He said “the decision was reached following appeals from the public that the doctors should give the federal government more time to meet their demands.
“There will be a review in two weeks’ time to determine how far the government had gone to honour our agreements.
Recall that the General Secretary of NARD, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, Arikawe Adeolu, said the outcome of the national executives meeting would determine whether the nationwide indefinite strike would be called off or not.
The strike by the doctors, which commenced on September 4, crippled activities in public hospitals across Nigeria.
The federal government had earlier said it had met many of the demands of the doctors, including payment of salary arrears.
