Nigeria - Scores of security operatives and civilians are feared dead and many missing after a convoy of oil prospectors being escorted by security operatives were ambushed in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State yesterday by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

Security and civilian sources said the incident occurred about 8:30am in  Bornoyesu village, a distance of some 40 kilometres from local government headquarters of Magumeri, where the attackers set ablaze two vehicles snatched from the troops.
A source said many soldiers and civilians were killed but could not be accounted for.
“Our escorts who have been protecting the teams  of oil prospectors for almost a month now came under ambush by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Magumeri yesterday.
It is sad one for us, we are working hard to rescue them,” a security source said, adding, “Many are missing, including soldiers, Civilian JTF, vigilantes and oil prospectors. We have been trying their lines but they are all switched off. We are confused now.”
