Nigeria - The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, has identified the Chibok girl who escaped from her abductors on Wednesday as Mariam Mohammed-Isa.
Akande disclosed the 15-year-old girl’s identity on his Twitter handle, @Akandeoj, on Thursday.
He said the girl was a Junior Secondary School 1 student as of the time she was kidnapped.

That information has raised questions on whether the girl was among the over 200 girls abducted by the Boko Haram sect in their school in 2014 since the victims were said to be taking their secondary school final examination as of the time they were abducted.
“Mariam Mohammed-Isa, 15, female, a JSS 1 student from Chibok community escaped yesterday (Wednesday) from three years Boko Haram bondage as earlier announced,” Akande wrote.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had on Wednesday quoted the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, as breaking the news of the escaped girl to members of the Federal Executive Council during their weekly meeting earlier in the day.
According to him, the girl had been brought to Abuja to join her colleagues who were rescued from captivity.
The presidential spokesman had said, “Yes, at the Federal Executive Council’s meeting, the Vice-President broke the cheering news to the members of the cabinet and after that I have also spoken to defence people who confirmed it.
“The details are yet to fully unravel. But in terms of if it is true-yes, it is true. I learnt she is already being brought to Abuja, but I have not seen her.”
