US says Buhari's aide Dabiri wrong to warn Nigerians away from the country

The United States is disappointed at the directive from the Nigerian government that its citizens should stay away from the North American country.
The Cable reports that a senior official in the Nigerian government said the Americans feel that Abike Dabiri-Erewa’s ‘Don’t travel’ advice to Nigerians was inappropriate and could stress the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The Americans, who are scrambling to straighten out the problems US president Donald Trump’s new travel ban has unravelled, wondered why Dabiri-Erewa made the statement when she was not even in the position to do so.
“The US authorities are worried that she made such a weighty statement without investigation, without evidence. The bigger issue, though, is that it is not within her remit to issue travel advisory to Nigerians. It is the job of the foreign affairs ministry.
“By failing to observe due protocol, she has caused a diplomatic problem for the country which we have to carefully manage. A travel advisory is a serious issue that cannot be issued by a presidential aide,” The Cable quotes a senior government official as saying.
Recall that Dabiri-Erewa on Monday, March 6 advised Nigerians to postpone trips to the US at least until Trump’s policy on immigration is clear.
She claimed that this became after US authorities reportedly began cancelling the visas of Nigerians and deporting them on arrival.
In the last few weeks, the office has received a few cases of Nigerians with valid multiple-entry US visas being denied entry and sent back to the Nigeria.
“In such cases reported to the office, such affected persons were sent back immediately on the next available flight and their visas were cancelled.
“This is only to advise Nigerians without any compelling or essential reasons to visit the US to consider rescheduling their trip until there is clarity on the new immigration policy,” Dabiri-Erewa had said through a statement by her media aide Abdurrahman Balogun.
