Nigeria - The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Justice Walter Onnoghen as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The confirmation followed the screening of the nominee by a Committee.
The Nigerian Senate earlier today began the screening of Justice Walter Onnoghen for the vacant post of the chief justice of Nigeria.
Onnoghen was Nigeria’s acting chief justice.
The Senate on February 21 announced the receipt of a nomination letter from the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, asking the Senate to confirm Onnoghen as the substantive CJN.
“Following the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC), I hereby notify you of the appointment of Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria,” Osinbajo said in the letter then.
