Nigeria - It was the end of the road for a suspected drug trafficker after he was nabbed by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, over 26.2kg of ephedrine found in female foot wears, tori.ng reports.
The narcotics were detected during the screening of passengers.
In another operation, the operatives also arrested two suspects who had just arrived from Cambodia and Sierra Leone with 305g and 1.37kg of cocaine respectively.
According to NDLEA spokesperson, the suspect arrested in connection with the ephedrine seizure, 48-year-old Ogujiuba Zacchaeus, is an electrician, who was on his way to Tanzania.
One of the other two suspects – Uchegbu Emeka (33), a textile merchant, allegedly inserted 305g of cocaine in his a***.
The third suspect, Emeka Okafor (28), an auto parts dealer, reportedly ingested 1.37kg of cocaine.
The agency’s commander at the airport, Ahmadu Garba, said all the cases are being investigated and the suspects would be charged to court soon.
In his statement, Zacchaeus said that he was introduced to drug smuggling by an old time friend.
He said,
Emeka, on the other hand, said he had lost everything he had due to economic recession.“I am married with six children and I reside in Abia where I work as an electrician. The ephedrine was carefully hidden inside female shoes and given to me by an old time friend.
“He told me to take the drug to Lagos and handle the shipping arrangements. Unfortunately, I was arrested during examination of the consignment after the drug was discovered. I regret ever getting involved in drug trafficking.”
“That is why I agreed to smuggle cocaine to Cambodia for N800,000 I needed money to get my own shop and expand my business,” the Enugu State indigene said.
