Nigeria - University of Ibadan is now No 1 citadel of learning in Nigeria according to the January edition of ranking web of universities
The university has also been ranked 16th best in Africa according to the same report.
The university fondly called UI was the first university in Nigeria.
According to the university’s website, until 1962 when it became a full-fledged independent university, UI was a College of the University of London in a special relationship scheme.
Indicators like teaching, research, research impact, innovation and international outlook were employed in arriving at the new ranking.
University of Ibadan is acknowledged within and outside the country as one of the largest in Africa and the flagship of postgraduate education in Nigeria as it produces the much required human resources for the entire Nigerian University system, the Nigerian public and private sectors and beyond.
University of Ibadan had also featured in the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2016-2017 and was listed among 24 top universities in Africa.
However, in world ranking, Havard University was listed No 1 in the world while UI, Nigeria's foremost institution was ranked No 1336.
