Manchester United have confirmed they have recalled goalkeeper Dean Henderson from his loan spell with Grimsby after a “significant injury to one of their first-team goalkeepers”.
The teenager is now eligible for the Red Devils' clash with champions Leicester City on Sunday, although no further details of the injury have been given.
Henderson joined Grimsby in August but had his loan extended in January and has kept three clean sheets in his last four games for the League Two side.
“Grimsby Town Football Club can confirm that Manchester United have re-called on loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson with immediate effect,” read a statement.
“Dean has been recalled by his parent club due to a significant injury to one of their first-team goalkeepers. In his short stay with the Mariners, Henderson made seven appearances keeping four clean sheets in the process.”
United’s first-team goalkeepers for the rest of the season are David De Gea, Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira, who returned to the club in January after his loan spell with Belenenses was cut short.
Pereira was brought back by Jose Mourinho as extra cover after the club allowed Sam Johnstone to move to Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old featured in the Under-23s 3-1 defeat to Everton on Monday and went down injured, although opted to carry on and even saved a penalty.
