RAF fighter jets were dispatched to monitor two Russian bombers which flew near UK airspace earlier today.
The pair of Tupolev TU-160 Blackjack bombers were in the UK's area of interest, but did not enter British territorial airspace.
The nuclear-capable bombers were watched as they came from the north east, passing to the west of Ireland, over the Bay of Biscay and heading back towards Russia earlier this afternoon.
Typhoon jets were scrambled from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland and RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. They were supported by a Voyager tanker from RAF Brize Norton.
