Nigeria - The factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ali Modu-Sheriff has promised he will leave his position as the party's leader after its convention.
Sheriff who spoke at a meeting with some members of the party from the South-West in Abuja on Wednesday, February 22, said he will not remain as PDP national chairman forever.

He also said his mission as the party's leader is to take PDP back to its 1999 glory.
Sheriff said: "I am not here to remain as chairman forever. I will leave after the convention, we will conduct a credible convention and whoever wants to be PDP leader can contest in the convention.”
While advising governors in the party to work with him, Sheriff said PDP leaders must endeavour to go back to their wards to work for the revival of the party.
He also assured the South-West members that the party's secretariat which has been under lock by security operatives would be reopened before Friday, February 24.
“We have transmitted the necessary document to the security agencies; including the Nigerian Police and the DSS to reopen it," he said.
The crisis in the PDP started after two court gave conflicting judgement on the party's leadership.
