Oh my word! Seven-year-old boy lynched for allegedly stealing garri in Badagry, Lagos

Nigeria - Seven-year-old boy has been lynched in the Badagry area of Lagos for allegedly stealing garri.

Social media reports and images showed that the boy was set ablaze after being beaten up.

Although details of the incident were sketchy at press time, the reports had caused outrage, with many Nigerians calling for an investigation and an end to jungle justice.
The Lagos State police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos said that the command was investigating to establish the veracity of the information. She added that the command would not hesitate to bring the culprits to book.
“We got to know about the incident through the social media. One of the reports said it took place in Orile, another said it happened in Badagry but the commissioner of police has directed that the divisional police officers in those areas investigate and ascertain the authenticity of the story.
“If it is true, you can be assured that the command would bring the culprits to justice, “ she said.
