UK signs Paris Agreement climate change treaty

The UK has signed the the world's first comprehensive climate change treaty to limit global temperature rises.
Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson ratified the Paris Agreement, which means the UK is now bound to try to keep temperature increases "well below" 2C.
More than 100 countries have already signed the deal, which came into force earlier this month.

The move has been welcomed by environmental campaigners, concerned that Donald Trump's election could threaten global action on climate change.
Mr Trump once claimed on Twitter that climate change didn't exist and was "created by and for the Chinese" but later dismissed his comments as a joke. His campaign team said he did believe in naturally occurring "shifts".
He has threatened to pull out of the Paris Agreement and promised a coal revival.
It is a stark contrast to the approach of Barack Obama, who has been working closely with the Chinese to reduce greenhouse gases
Earlier this week, French President Francois Hollande urged the President-elect to honour the agreement saying the law was "irreversible in law and in fact".
Climate Change Minister Nick Hurd, who is in Morocco for the latest round of UN climate negotiations, said: "The UK is ratifying the historic Paris Agreement so that we can help to accelerate global action on climate change and deliver on our commitments to create a safer, more prosperous future for us all."
He said that the UK would be looking to expand the clean energy sector.
Countries will have to significantly transform their electricity, heating, transport and agriculture sectors in order to hit the temperature limits set in the agreement.
Chief adviser on climate at WWF-UK Dr Stephen Cornelius said: "It has never been more important for the world to stand together on climate change, and the UK joining the Paris Agreement is a welcome signal."
Christian Aid's international climate change lead said the UK signing up to the treaty showed global support from "America's oldest and strongest ally".
