Benin City, Nigeria - An Oredo Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo, on Wednesday, sentenced a teenager, Shegun Olamide to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a N5,000 cell phone.
The Magistrate, Mrs P.E Foy-Yamah, sentenced Olamide, 18, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft and begged the court for mercy.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ada Johnbull told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 21 at about 4:00pm in Benin City.
Johnbull said the accused stole the N5,000 handset from one Amen Kingsley.
He said the offence contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code.
