| Dr Okonoboh - New Speaker |
From Edo State, Elizabeth Ativie, the first female to emerge Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, has stepped down.
Mrs Ativie was made Speaker on May 3rd and was sworn-in on May 9th after Victor Edoror was impeached over financial misappropriation.
Ativie was asked to step down by the party leadership to pave way for a lawmaker from Edo Central senatorial district to emerge Speaker.
This was to balance the power equation in the state.
Festus Okonoboh representing Igueben was elected Speaker today.
