Two men armed with knives have reportedly taken several people hostage in a church in northern France.
Between four and six people are being held by the knifemen in the place of worship in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, Normandy, according to the Reuters news agency, citing a police source.
A priest is among those being held, local news website Normandie Actu reported, adding negotiators are at the scene.
French media reports suggest the assailants got in through the back door of the church and took a priest, two nuns and two parishioners hostage during mass.
TV footage at the scene shows one person being stretchered into an awaiting ambulance, surrounded by police cars and fire engines.
Le Figaro is saying one of the hostages managed to escape and raised the alarm.
