WORLD NEWS: Gunmen in Dublin kill one with AK-47 rifle in a boxing match

One man has been killed and two others injured after gunmen apparently carrying AK-47 rifles opened fire at a boxing match weigh-in in Dublin.

Unconfirmed witness reports say the three attackers were dressed in police-style uniforms when they burst in at around 2.30pm.

One of the boxers, who had just stepped off the scales in his underwear, along with three officials, ran for their lives when the gunmen opened fire in the function room.
Young children were among those forced to dive for cover, the Irish Independent reported.

The scene has been sealed off for forensic examination

Police said emergency services found three injured men at the scene, all in their 20s or 30s, and that one was subsequently pronounced dead.

The other two were taken to hospital with suspected gunshot wounds, but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A burnt-out van, believed to be the getaway vehicle, has been found not far from the hotel.

"Dublin has a gang problem. There have been numerous shootings in recent years, numerous killings," said Brady.

"A couple of well-known brothers from the Crumlin area were believed to have been going to watch the weigh-in.

"As a result of the feud about 10 men had been warned in recent months their lives were in danger."

Saturday's Clash of the Clans boxing event at Dublin's National Arena has now been cancelled, tweeted TV channel Box Nation.

The main fight was due to be a European lightweight title bout between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Jao Bento.

Promoter Frank Warren was putting on the event with MGM, a Marbella-based gym run by Birmingham-born Irish boxer Matthew Macklin.

European light-middleweight champ Jamie Moore was shot in the legs two years ago while he was in the Spanish city training Macklin.
