Manchester City received a boost on Thursday as they were able to welcome club captain Vincent Kompany back to first-team training.
The Belgium international centre-back has been absent for Manuel Pellegrini’s side since limping off during the Boxing Day victory over Sunderland, having endured a relapse of a calf problem that had kept him out for a little over a month only nine minutes after coming on as a substitute.
City have enjoyed a six-match unbeaten run in the Premier Division without the 29-year-old, yet they have drawn three of those matches.
Pellegrini will reveal on Friday when he expects the defender to return to competitive action, and the odds look stacked against him featuring during Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against Leicester at the Etihad.
Kompany has turned out in only 12 competitive matches for City so far this term. When on the field in his Premier League encounters, Pellegrini's outfit have conceded only once in 729 minutes.
