NEWS: NIGERIA - Don’t write off FG’s efforts to reposition Nigeria, Mark tells Nigerians

The Former Senate President, Sen. David Mark, has urged Nigerians not to write off the efforts the Federal Government is making to reposition the country in spite of the security and socio-economic challenges. Mark’s call is contained in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Mr Paul Mumeh and issued in Abuja on Thursday.

He, however, advised the Federal Government to make the Nigerian people the focus of all its actions and policies in order to uplift the living standard of the citizens.The former senate president also urged the people to reciprocate government’s good gestures by being law-abiding.

“We must at all times support constituted authorities as that is the only way to promote democracy, good governance, and development. “This period calls for sober reflection and a resolve to support the efforts of government to overcome the challenges,’’ the statement said.

He noted that the current security, economic, and socio-political challenges in the country could be overcome. The statement, therefore, urged Nigerians not to allow political differences to affect the national interest, saying: “all hands must be on deck to protect the country.

“We must remember that the interest and welfare of citizens remain the ultimate goal of government.’’ Mark called on both Christians and Muslims to embrace one another in the spirit of the Christmas season. He advised Muslims to use the Christmas period “which coincides with the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad’’ to embrace peace, love and ensure good neighbourliness.

“Christians and Muslims should imbibe the true teachings of Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad,’’ he said. On the relationship between the legislative and the executive arms of government at the national level, Marks said a positive synergy must be formed without compromising the constitutional mandates of each arm.

“This is so because it makes for a healthy and smooth working relationship for public officers to deliver the goods to the people,’’ the statement added.
