Nigeria - Oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta yesterday said they have declared a period of fasting and prayer for President Muhammadu Buhari, to return to the country alive and healthy.

National Chairman of the Host Communities of Nigeria, (HOSCON), umbrella body of all areas producing oil and gas, Dr. Mike Emuh, said the decision was because Buhari’s government had shown it was capable of solving the problems of the region, Daily Post reports.

Speaking during the ongoing Social Media Week in Lagos, the governor disclosed that many people found the statement he in made in 2012 as inciting violence but it remained the truth.

AU Chairperson and Guinean President Conde calls Buhari, wishes him good health

Nigeria - The Chairperson of the African Union (AU), President Alpha Conde of Guinea, called President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Friday, March 3.

Calling on behalf of leaders of member countries of the AU, Conde wished the Nigerian president good health and speedy recovery.

He assured Buhari that he has the support of all African leaders who are praying for him at a time like this.

Sleeping too much or too little can increase the likelihood of becoming obese, researchers have discovered.

The study found abnormal sleeping patterns increased the risk of being overweight for those genetically predisposed to obesity.

A scuba driver who fainted in the water during a civic ceremony in Karamursel, north-western Turkey's Koceli Province to mark the anniversary of a ferry disaster, was saved by the town's mayor, Ismail Yildirim.

The lady whose name was given as Senay Ertorun, fainted and was having breathing difficulties which was spotted on time by the mayor, as the two divers were in the sea to place a wreath in the water, in tribute to the 272 people who lost their lives in the Uskudar Disaster of 1958.

Nigeria - In a recent revelation, a resident of Southern Kaduna identified as Peter Magayaki was shot dead on Wednesday, March 1, while working on his farmland.

This was disclosed in a statement released by Yakubu Kuzamani, the spokesman of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), on Friday, March 4, The Cable reports.

Jordan executes 15 people, 10 of them for terrorism convictions

Jordan executed 15 people on Saturday including 10 convicted on terrorism charges ranging from an attack a decade ago on Western tourists to the slaying of a writer, a judicial source and the government spokesman Mohammad al Momani said on Saturday.

Al Momani said those executed included one man who was convicted of an attack last year on an intelligence compound that killed five security personnel.

Sad! Nigerian Army loses 28 soldiers with others wounded in fight against Boko Haram last month

The Nigerian Army has revealed that 28 of its men were killed in the month of February during different encounters with members of the Boko Haram sect.

Giving update on the progress of Operation Lafiya Dole, the theatre commander, Leo Irabor, disclosed that several other soldiers were wounded some missing.

The soldiers also killed several Boko Haram insurgents and rescued no fewer than 59 women and children during several clearance operations.

Meanwhile CAN has a different view to the Southern Kaduna crisis, blames security agencies for persistent attacks

Nigeria - The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said that the failure of security agencies to arrest and bring to book those responsible for the killings in Southern Kaduna was the reason the crisis has persisted.

It, therefore, urged the security agencies to wake up to their responsibilities.

CAN lamented that despite the curfew, the presence of the Police and other security agencies in the volatile zone, the killings remain unabated, urging its members to continue praying for the permanent restoration of peace in the area.

Donald Trump has called for an "immediate investigation" into Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's ties to Vladimir Putin amid the ongoing row over his administration's ties to Russian officials.

The US President tweeted a photo, taken 14 years ago, of the two men holding coffee and doughnuts at a New York City petrol station.

He called the New York senator a "total hypocrite" and called for a probe into Mr Schumer's "ties to Russia and Putin".
