President Buhari arrives Aqaba to participate in counter-terrorism summit im Jordan

Nigeria - President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Aqaba, Jordan, to participate in a summit of Heads of State to review strategies in fighting terrorism.

The summit, tagged, `Aqaba Retreat’, to be hosted by His Majesty, King Abdullah II of Jordan, would also look at ways at reinforcing joint security structures that would be more proactive in preventing attacks.

President Buhari set to hit Jordan for Counter-terrorism meeting

Nigeria - President Muhammadu Buhari is set to depart Nigeria for Jordan. The president would be attending a meeting on terrorism holding December 2 – 3, 2017 in the Middle East country.

According to a statement by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Buhari is expected to discuss issues surrounding terrorism in country while seeking measures to cripple activities of insurgents.

Nigeria - President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in New York thanked the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for its support to Nigeria’s campaign against terrorism and insurgency with the donation of military hardware and pledge to further supply helicopters.

Speaking during a bilateral meeting with King Abdullah II shortly after his address to the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President said the very expensive donation of about 200 Armoured Fighting Vehicles “reflects true concern for Nigeria’s security situation and genuine goodwill towards a friendly nation.”

Israeli guard kills 2 Jordanians in Amman embassy confrontation

An Israeli guard shot and killed two Jordanians late Sunday at an Israeli embassy compound in the Jordanian capital, Amman, after one of them lunged at him with a screwdriver, Israeli officials said Monday.

The victims included a Jordanian carpenter and the owner of the building used by Israeli embassy staff who was hit by gunfire and later succumbed to his injuries.

Oh dear! Journalist jailed over Facebook comments

An Abu Dhabi court jailed Wednesday a Jordanian journalist for three years over Facebook comments deemed insulting to the United Arab Emirates, Emirati state media and a Jordanian press union said.

The Emirati state news agency WAM said a Jordanian national was handed a sentence of three years in prison and fined 500,000 dirhams ($136,130, 128,175 euros) for “insulting symbols of the state” on social media.

Jordan executes 15 people, 10 of them for terrorism convictions

Jordan executed 15 people on Saturday including 10 convicted on terrorism charges ranging from an attack a decade ago on Western tourists to the slaying of a writer, a judicial source and the government spokesman Mohammad al Momani said on Saturday.

Al Momani said those executed included one man who was convicted of an attack last year on an intelligence compound that killed five security personnel.
