Former Burton footballer Kelvin Maynard has been shot dead in his car in Amsterdam, his Dutch club has announced.

Dutch police open fire on man with knife at Schiphol airport
Dutch military police on Friday shot and wounded a man armed with a knife, who burst into their office at Amsterdam’s busy Schiphol airport, police told AFP.

“This afternoon a man came into the office of the Marechaussee (military police) here at Schiphol and threatened my colleagues with a knife,” said police spokesman Dennis Muller.”He was shot in the leg and taken to hospital in Amsterdam.”

Elephant trample tourists taking pictures to death in Zambia
Two tourists, a Dutch and a Belgian, were trampled to death by an elephant in Zambia as they got too close to the animal when trying to take pictures, police said on Sunday.
The holidaymakers, whose identities have not been released, were killed on Saturday while on safari at Maramba River Lodge in the tourist town of Livingstone.

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria, on Tuesday explained why it no longer issues visas to Nigerians.
The Embassy’s Charge d’ Affaires, Michel Deleen, said in Lagos that the Embassy had since 2013, swapped its visa issuance processes in Nigeria, with the French Consulate General in Lagos and the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja.

Dutch riot police break up Turkish protest in Rotterdam
Dutch riot police have broken up a protest by more than 1,000 supporters of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after diplomatic tensions between Turkey and the Netherlands.
Demonstrators had gathered outside the Turkish consulate in Rotterdam to show support for Mr Erdogan after two Turkish ministers were prevented from addressing a rally in the Dutch city ahead of Turkey's referendum next month.

VIDEO: Oh boy! Flybe plane crash-landing at Schiphol airport Netherlands
A plane flying from Edinburgh has been evacuated after crash-landing at a Dutch airport.
A passenger filmed out the window of the Flybe plane as its propellers scraped against the runway surface just after touchdown.
Other footage posted online showed the plane's landing gear collapsing and the aircraft tilting to the right the moment it landed.

Eight countries have joined an initiative to raise millions of dollars to replace shortfalls caused by President Donald Trump's ban on U.S.-funded groups around the world providing information on abortion, Sweden's deputy prime minister said.
Isabella Lovin told Reuters a conference would be held on March 2 in Brussels to kick-start the funding initiative to help non-governmental organizations whose family planning projects could be affected.

Dutch justice minister resigns amid drug trafficker payment row
Dutch Justice Minister Ard van der Steur has resigned in a row over a 2001 compensation payment to a convicted drug trafficker.
His departure is regarded as a blow to the government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
His centre-right Liberal Party (VVD) is trailing in opinion polls ahead of a general election in March.
