Former Burton footballer Kelvin Maynard has been shot dead in his car in Amsterdam, his Dutch club has announced.
The 32-year-old defender was targeted by two suspects who fled on a motorbike after the shooting in Amsterdam-Southeast on Wednesday evening.
Maynard made 10 appearances for Burton Albion FC and had more recently been playing for non-league side Alphense Boys in the Netherlands.
A statement on the Dutch club's website said: "Last night, we received the terrible news of the death of Kelvin Maynard.
"The player of Alphense Boys Sunday 1 was a victim of a shooting incident in Amsterdam-Zuidoost last night.
"Our deepest condolences go to the wife and children of Kelvin, his family and friends."
The club were due to play against Hollandia on Sunday but the match has been postponed out of respect.
Suriname-born Maynard started out playing for FC Volendam and FC Emmen in Holland.
He joined Burton in the summer of 2014 and had said it was a "dream" to play in England..

A statement on the Brewers' official website said: "Everyone at Burton Albion Football Club is saddened to learn of the tragic death of our former player Kelvin Maynard at the age of 32.
"Our sympathies go out to all his family and friends at this difficult time."
Police are investigating the shooting but have not given a possible motive.
It happened on the same day a lawyer was shot dead in Amsterdam over a witness involved in a case linked to a series of underworld murders.
Investigators do not believe the two killings are linked but have not ruled out the possibility.
