Tragedy as 6 killed in Benue boat mishap

Nigeria - At least six people have lost their lives on Friday night after the boat which they were travelling in capsized at the middle of River Katsina-Ala in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

Witnesses said that the incident occurred between 7:30 and 8:00pm during a heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm.



It was gathered that none of the 15 passengers who were onboard the local boat including the deceased had on a life jacket when the incident occurred.

Daily Trust says local sources revealed that the corpses of the victims were recovered on Friday night and Saturday morning respectively.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), for the Benue Command, Moses Joel Yamu, said he was not yet aware of the sad development.
