One Killed In Kisii County, Kenya As Protests Erupt Over Election Results

Following Kenyan presidential hopeful Raila Odinga’s rejection of the resultsannounced thus far by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), protests have broken out across several parts of Kenya, resulting in at least one death in Kisii County, Sahara Reporters is reporting.

Kisii is a stronghold of Mr. Odinga’s opposition National Super Alliance (NASA).
Reports say that protesters clashed with police upon hearing that incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta was leading the poll early on Wednesday.
He also gathered that there have been reported protests in parts of Mombasa.
In a speech delivered Wednesday morning, Mr. Odinga called the results so far announced “a monumental fraud.” He appealed for calm but stated that he had no control over what the people would do.
According to the 72-year-old candidate, the electoral system was “hacked,” and he insisted that he has won the election with 8 million votes as opposed to Mr. Kenyatta’s 7 million.

At the time of publication, Mr. Kenyatta holds a lead over Mr. Odinga, but the IEBC has not yet declared a winner. Following the outbreak of protests and allegations of hacking, the electoral overseer announced that it would suspend the release of results until further notice.
