Nigeria - The abductors of six Senior Secondary School students of Lagos Model Collage, Igbonla, Epe, Lagos, have informed their family members that the children have been relocated out of Lagos and Ogun creeks.
The militants had, last week, threatened to relocate the victims should their families fail to meet up with their demand for N20 million ransom.
In a quick reaction, a senior police officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “we won’t join issues with the criminals. I want you to know that the heat is too much on them. We are keeping tabs on them. The pressure is too much on them.
“You know that three of their members, who had gone to survey the waterways on how to relocate the victims, were arrested in Benin, Edo State capital, by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) last Tuesday.”
The father of one of the kidnapped students told Daily Sun that he has been informed that the children have been relocated out of the Lagos and Ogun axis.
The parent, who claimed that he would have fallen victim of advance fee fraudsters, said: “If not for the calls from the kidnappers, I would have paid N2 million to a fraudster. You know that the kidnappers warned us to do our negotiations individually. I got a phone call on Saturday that I should negotiate on my son’s release. I told the person that I had N2 million and the person has been telling me to drop the money at one place or the other. I have gone to so many places.
I was at a location in Ikorodu waiting for directives when I got a call that our children had been relocated and we should expect a call (today).”
Yesterday’s relocation was the second time the abducted students would be taken from one creek to another.
Policemen from the Lagos State command had stormed the first camp where the students were kept and engaged some of the kidnappers in a gun duel. In the process, nine policemen were shot and some the militants killed, while two of the kidnappers’ boats were sunk in the river.
