Nigeria - Residents of Awhum in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, are in jubilant mood following the removal of their royal father, His Royal Highness, Igwe Charles Ugwu‎.
It was gathered that embattled monarch was removed from office over an alleged illegal land deal and misrepresentation of the state government.

Daily Post reports that a source revealed this came to light at a meeting summoned by the State Governor, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi between the embattled traditional ruler and protesting members of the community.
A member of the community, who attended the meeting, said the Governor was visibly angry at the weighty allegations made against the Igwe, including his alleged attempt with his cohorts to sell a vast expanse of land belonging to a section of the community to a company falsely claiming to have been sent by both the Federal and Enugu State Governments to mine coal in the land.
Our source said the Governor became more infuriated when, instead of responding to the weighty charges, the Traditional Ruler resorted to hauling insults and abuses at some Government officials in attendance.
The Governor who was visibly upset with the Igwe’s conduct which he considered disrespectful, was said to have ordered the Igwe’s suspension and ended the meeting abruptly.
The Governor was said to have also ordered the arrest of the alleged buyers of the land should they be seen around the place again.
It was said that upon hearing the Governor, the Igwe and members of his entourage had thrown themselves to the ground begging for leniency but were roundly ignored by the fuming state Chief Executive.
News of the Igwe’s fate was received with jubilation in Awhum as hundreds of indigenes took the roads on the town dancing and singing Governor Ugwuanyi’s praises.
They denounced the Igwe as unfit for the revered office following the many alleged scandals involving shady land deals that had trailed his leadership in the past.
It was also learnt that security agents are now on the trail of some of the deposed Igwe’s agents who sought to create confusion in the town by spreading false claims that the Governor has rescinded the decision following intervention from higher quarters.
We are await reponse from the Enugu State Government and the affected monarch.
