Nigeria - Honour came the way of Teacher, a three- year- old mongrel, which died after attacking a female suicide bomber during a wedding party in Belbelo community, Jere Local Government Area of Borno State April 1.
The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) posthumously honoured the dog yesterday in Asaba, capital of Delta State, for its heroic act.

The dog owner, Alhaji Mallum, received a plaque and N100, 000 with a year free medical services for a new dog from NVMA.
He that lamented the death of his dog has left a vacuum difficult to fill.
Teacher paid the supreme sacrifice when it attacked a suicide bomber attempting to detonate explosives at the party.
The 39- year- old hunter said he and his dog had gone on a hunting expedition and were returning home at about 7.30 am when they decided to attend the party.
At the event, he recalled seeing a young girl who was a complete stranger and interrogated her.
The girl, according to him, confessed Boko Haram sponsors sent her to detonate an IED strapped to her body at the wedding.
Mallum said he used his stick to remove the clothing of the would-be attacker but failed.
During the scuffle, his dog started barking and joined him but the girl ran away with the dog in hot pursuit.
He said his dog and the bomber tumbled to the ground, forcing the IED to explode, killing the dog and the female bomber.
Mallum said teacher was an excellent hunter and assisted him in killing many animals, which he sold.
Presenting the award, The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, said the force has ordered massive deployment of sniffer dogs to assist in the fight against terrorism in the North East.
Represented by Charles Ugomuoh, AIG Department of Operations Force Animal Branch, NPF Force Headquarters, Idris said the police have also lost “two prime sniffer dogs in the fight against insurgency with the military in Yobe State”.
