Coronation of the new Obama of Benin now October 20th

The planning committee for the coronation of Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa, Edaiken N’Uselu as the new Oba of Benin, yesterday, announced a shift in the date of the coronation from September 26 to October 20, 2016.

Chairman of the committee, Prof. Gregory‎ Akenzua, who announced in Benin City, explained that the change in date is sequel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s change of Edo State gubernatorial election date from September 10 to Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

“As a result of this change, His Royal Highness, the Edaiken N’Uselu, will now depart finally from Uselu Palace for Eko-Ohae on the 8th of October, 2016. His Royal Highness will normally perform some important ceremonies connected with the coronation everyday for seven-10 days prior to the day of his final departure form Uselu.

“We like to inform the general public, through‎ this medium, that from the day the Edaiken N’Uselu leaves Uselu Palace for Eko-Ohae, the use of Coral Beads by those who are normally entitled will be restored, and the current use of “Omo N’Orhue” (white beads) will be discontinued. Furthermore, burial ceremonies are prohibited throughout the period of the Coronation process”, Prof. Akenzua said.

The Committee expressed regret over the inconvenience the unavoidable change of date may have caused all the numerous well-wishers interested‎ in attending the event.

In line with customs and tradition, the Crown Prince, Eheneden Erediauwa, relocated to Uselu in May, as part of his preparation for his ascension to the throne as Oba of Benin.
