Cholera hits Ebonyi State, 2 killed

Nigeria - Two persons are feared dead in a fresh cholera outbreak in Ebeta Community of Effium, Ohaukwu council area of Ebonyi State.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike confirmed it but said the case has not been properly confirmed to be cholera.

He addded that the state government has taken intervention materials to the community.

Umezuruike said the state government swung into action immediately the case was brought to the ministry’s notice.

“We have gone into the community and carried out sensitisation. We are not sure, yet, if it was a case of cholera but, we have moved in intervention materials which we kept at the nearest health facility to ensure quicker intervention but, since then, we have not recorded any case as nobody went to the facility.”

It was learnt that two children of the same parents died in Ebeta after exhibiting symptoms of cholera, a situation which threw the entire community into panic which led to residents reaching out to the state government for help.
