Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 'phone of the year' despite 'explosions'

Samsung's reputation may have been dented by recent reports about some of its Galaxy S7 Edge phones exploding.
But that didn't stop the device being named phone of the year at the T3 awards in London, beating the likes of HTC, Apple and Google.

Earlier this month, it was reported supply teacher Sarah Crockett said her S7 Edge phone blew up in a cafe in Witham, Essex even though it was not being charged.
A similar case has also been reported in the US while others across the Atlantic apparently happened during charging.
And they come as safety regulators ordered a formal recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7s after dozens of devices exploded or caught fire.
The South Korean company said there were not any confirmed issues with the S7, and there were no plans to recall that handset.
As well as being awarded phone of the year, Samsung also scooped the brand of the year award, and its Gear S2 smartwatch won the wearable technology category.
The Apple iPhone was named gadget of the decade, a one-off prize to mark 10 years of the awards.

It beat the iPad, PlayStation 3 and Netflix to take the top spot.
Virtual Reality (VR) headset HTC Vive took home three prizes - gaming product of the year, innovation of the year and gadget of the year.

Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am, who founded tech company i.am+, was named tech personality of the year.
Sky's non-contract Now TV won streaming service of the year and laptop of the year went to Microsoft's Surface Book.
Other winners included Tesla, whose Model X won car of the year, and Sony, which won television of the year for its XD93 model.
Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales was given the tech legend award and Eben Upton, founder of personal computer Raspberry Pi, was recognised for his outstanding contribution to tech.
